What the Lorem Ipsum generator does

Why placeholder text is Latin gibberish

The whole point of Lorem Ipsum is that it means nothing. When a layout is filled with readable English, people start editing the words and reacting to the message instead of the design; scrambled pseudo-Latin keeps everyone focused on typography, spacing, and hierarchy. The text is deliberately not real Latin — it descends from a passage of Cicero that a printer garbled in the 1500s and that was later revived by the Letraset transfer sheets and early desktop-publishing software which made it a standard. Crucially, its word lengths and letter frequencies roughly mimic those of ordinary Western prose, so a paragraph of lorem produces believable line breaks and column widths, which a string of repeated "text text text" never would.

How this generator works and where to use it

Under the hood this generator assembles text from a fixed lorem vocabulary: it builds sentences of roughly six to fourteen words, each capitalised and closed with a full stop, and groups several sentences into each paragraph, so the output varies naturally every time you press Generate. Choosing the "words" unit gives you a bare run of terms with no punctuation, "sentences" gives you punctuated sentences without paragraph breaks, and "paragraphs" gives you fully formed blocks separated by blank lines — so you can match whatever slot you are filling, from a one-line caption to a long article body. Gotchas and a privacy note

A word of caution: never let placeholder text reach production. Lorem leaking onto a live page or into a shipped email is a classic and very public embarrassment, so search your project for it before you launch. It is also meaningless, so there is nothing to translate, and search engines can read a page full of it as thin, low-value content — keep it strictly to drafts, and remember to also test your layout with realistic copy, since real sentences vary far more in length than lorem does.
