GeoIP
GeoIP is the technique of estimating the geographic location of a device from its IP address, typically resolving to a country, region or city.
In plain terms
GeoIP is geolocation by IP address: databases map ranges of addresses to an estimated country, region and sometimes city. It is how a website knows to greet you in a local language or apply regional rules. Accuracy is high at the country level but drops for city and can be wrong for mobile, VPN or datacenter ranges. GeoIP is derived from the address's registration and ASN data, not from GPS, so it reflects where the network says the IP lives rather than where a device physically is.
Why it matters
GeoIP results vary between databases and over time. Verify the actual exit and required country before use; a location label does not guarantee destination acceptance. s4m has selectable public exit configurations. Use the endpoint or profile issued for the protocol and location selected in your account. An exit IP can have a prior history. Accounts, cookies and browser signals may still identify a user; changing an address does not guarantee a clean reputation. Related topics: proxy, VPN, fraud score.

Questions, answered
How accurate is GeoIP?
Country-level GeoIP is usually accurate, but city-level guesses are often off by a wide margin, and datacenter, mobile or VPN ranges can misreport entirely. It reflects network registration data, not a physical GPS fix, so treat sub-country detail as approximate.
