Proxy Pool
A proxy pool is a set of proxy IP addresses that a client or service draws from and rotates through to spread traffic across many exits.
What it is
A proxy pool is a collection of exit IPs that you rotate across so that no single address carries all your traffic. Pools underpin rotating and backconnect proxies, and you can also build your own from a list of addresses. The larger and more diverse the pool, the more you can spread load and the less any one IP is exposed to per-IP rate limits or flags — which is why pool size and quality are headline metrics for scraping providers.
How it works
A client or gateway picks an address from the pool per request or per session, distributing traffic and reducing the chance any single IP is blocked. Good pool management means health-checking members and dropping dead or blocked ones, matching rotation to the target's limits, and using sticky assignment for stateful flows. A pool full of stale or abused addresses is worse than a handful of clean ones, so quality and freshness matter more than raw count.
How it relates to s4m
Our free proxy list can be a starting point for a pool. The catalogue retains historical records, including entries marked as not working. A recorded success does not guarantee a connection now. Review the status and timestamp, then validate an endpoint before use. Related topics: dedicated IP. Review plan terms and use health checks. Related plans: proxy plans.
Questions, answered
Is a bigger proxy pool always better?
Not necessarily. A large pool helps spread load, but a pool full of stale, abused or blocked IPs performs worse than a smaller set of clean, live ones. Freshness, reputation and health-checking matter more than raw address count.
