Rotating Proxy
A rotating proxy automatically changes the exit IP it uses, either every request or on a schedule, drawing from a pool of addresses.
What it is
A rotating proxy assigns you a different exit IP over time, pulling from a pool of addresses. Rotation can happen per request, per session or on a timer. The point is to spread traffic across many IPs so that no single address absorbs all your requests, which helps evade per-IP rate limits and reduces the chance any one address is flagged. It is the opposite of a static proxy, which keeps you on one address.
How it works
A gateway or backconnect endpoint hands out addresses from the pool according to your rotation policy. Frequent rotation suits high-volume scraping of independent pages, where distributing load across IPs is the goal. It hurts stateful work, though: logins, carts and multi-step flows expect one consistent visitor, so a mid-session IP change looks like account theft. For those you want a sticky session instead. Choosing the rotation interval is really about matching it to how the target counts and trusts you.
How it relates to s4m
s4m has selectable public exit configurations. Use the endpoint or profile issued for the protocol and location selected in your account. Selecting an exit does not automatically rotate every request. Configure your client for the issued endpoints, preserve stateful sessions and respect applicable limits. A dedicated IP is exclusive during its assignment under the service terms. Prior history, assignment duration, availability and supported bindings still matter. The free list contains separate third-party endpoints. Past checks do not guarantee availability; validate candidates before use. Questions, answered
When should I rotate proxies instead of keeping one IP?
Rotate for high-volume scraping of independent pages, where spreading requests across IPs avoids per-IP rate limits and flags. Keep one static IP for stateful flows — logins, carts, checkouts — where a changing address breaks the session and looks suspicious.
