HTTP CONNECT

HTTP CONNECT is a request method that asks an HTTP proxy to open a raw tunnel to a destination, letting encrypted traffic pass through unread.

In plain terms

The CONNECT method turns an ordinary HTTP proxy into a blind tunnel. A client sends CONNECT host:443 to the proxy; the proxy opens a TCP connection to that host and, once established, simply relays bytes in both directions without interpreting them. This is what lets an authenticated HTTP proxy carry HTTPS: the proxy sees only the destination host and port, never the encrypted contents, because the TLS handshake happens end-to-end between the client and the real server through the tunnel.

How it works with s4m

The s4m HTTP proxy at proxy.s4m.online:3128 uses CONNECT for HTTPS with USER:PASS credentials (see proxy authentication). CONNECT opens a TCP tunnel: it can also carry non-HTTP protocols when the proxy permits the destination. End-to-end TLS with certificate validation protects the content; CONNECT itself adds no encryption, and the proxy still sees the target host and port. The SOCKS5 endpoint on port 1080 is another interface for TCP relaying, not a requirement merely because the payload is not HTTP.

Practical notes

Configure your HTTPS client to use proxy.s4m.online:3128 with USER:PASS; a compatible library sends CONNECT automatically. The resulting tunnel carries TCP bytes, including non-HTTP protocols when the destination is allowed, but not ordinary UDP datagrams. SOCKS5 on port 1080 is an alternative for TCP; its UDP ASSOCIATE feature requires support in the client, proxy and network path. End-to-end TLS with certificate validation protects HTTPS content. CONNECT supplies a tunnel and an exit IP, not additional encryption or hidden destination metadata.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can an HTTP proxy read my HTTPS traffic when using CONNECT?

No. With CONNECT the proxy only opens a raw tunnel to the destination and relays encrypted bytes; the TLS handshake is end-to-end between you and the real server. The proxy sees the target host and port but not the contents of the session.
