Transparent Proxy
Transparent can describe automatic traffic interception or a proxy that exposes the client IP. These are different properties.
What it is
A transparent proxy may intercept traffic without client configuration. In anonymity lists, transparent instead means that a test exposed the origin IP. The anonymous and elite labels describe different header observations. Interception and IP disclosure are separate properties; neither label establishes who a visitor is.
How it works
An intercepting proxy does not necessarily add X-Forwarded-For. This header reveals the client address when it contains that address; a Via header describes an intermediary. Check what the destination receives. Plain HTTP and tunneled HTTPS can expose different information.
How it relates to s4m
s4m proxies route supported traffic through an exit IP. The free public proxy list also uses anonymity labels, including elite. Check actual behaviour with appropriate tools before use. A label does not guarantee privacy, encryption or that a service cannot recognise a proxy. An exit-IP check alone is not a request-header audit.
Questions, answered
Does a transparent proxy hide my IP address?
If transparent means a test exposed the origin IP, it did not hide that address in that test. If it means automatic interception, the term alone does not answer the question. Check the actual connection and destination-visible information.
